How the Required Marks Formula Works

This calculator uses a simple percentage-based formula to determine how many marks you need in your upcoming exams to hit your desired overall percentage.

Formula:

  • Grand Total = Total Marks (completed) + Total Marks (remaining)
  • Target Marks = (Target Percentage / 100) × Grand Total
  • Required Marks = Target Marks − Marks Already Obtained

If the required marks are greater than the remaining total marks, your target is not achievable — the calculator will let you know and show you the maximum percentage you can still reach.

Example Calculation

Suppose a Matric student has completed 3 subjects (total 550 marks) and scored 450. They have 3 subjects remaining (total 550 marks) and want to achieve 80% overall:

  • Grand Total = 550 + 550 = 1100
  • Target Marks = (80 / 100) × 1100 = 880
  • Required Marks = 880 − 450 = 430 out of 550

The student needs 430 marks in the remaining exams (78.18% in remaining papers) to achieve an overall 80%.
